This is what a colleague had to say about Dr Paul Jarvis.
Paul was appointed as a consultant in Emergency Medicine at Calderdale Royal Hospital in February 2008. He has proven to be an extremely enthusiastic and motivating member of the team since his arrival. His main impact has been his leadership on infection control issues. As a department (and trust) we were not performing as well as we would expect with regards to infection control targets. Paul has changed this situation as follows:
1) He has motivated the whole department (doctors, nurses, ancillary workers etc) to take ownership of this issue.
2) He has encouraged the ED Consultants to lead by example, both in person and through promotional literature
3) He continues to tirelessly lead on this, even though we have now achieved the various targets set for us
4) His "Consultant led" approach has now been advocated as an exemplar throughout the Trust as a measure of good practice and governance
5) As a department, we are consistently achieving 100 per cent performance when it comes to hand hygiene audits and audits of insertion of IV/urinary catheter/central lines
6) His work has no doubt contributed to the Trust’s marked improvement in the rates of MRSA and C Diff. As a result of Paul’s leadership, Infection Control issues are now second nature rather than "another target". He deserves recognition for this approach and I highly commend him for the NHS247 Employee of the Month award.
